Tobin Trautz

Head Coach

Tobin Trautz is our Head Coach here at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Ice Hockey Club as the Head Coach after several years coaching at the NCAA, ACHA, EJHL, USPHL, ISL Prep, and USA Hockey levels. Trautz, originally from Maine, is the former Associate Head Coach at both the University of New England (NCAA ECAC DIII) and Colby College (NCAA NESCAC DIII). He also served as the Head Coach at the University of Maine (ACHA DI). Trautz just completed his 17th season behind the bench, first with the 49ers, leading them to the program's first, record breaking, ACCHL Championship.


Keegan McGurit

Assistant Coach

Keegan McGuirt rejoins the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Ice Hockey Club for his third season as an Assistant Coach.  McGuirt played nine seasons for the Charlotte Jr Checkers at the AA level.  Originally from North Carolina, he joined the 49ers after serving four years in the United States Marine Corps.

Greg Moshopoulos


Greg grew up in suburban NY as a Rangers fan and has been watching hockey for over 30 years. His passion for the game led to him playing in net for 15 years and coached youth hockey for 10. He studied at Middle Tennessee State University, majoring in broadcast journalism. He is currently the head writer for and contributes to Prednecknation Radio, discussing all things Nashville Predators and around the NHL.

Gus Brown

Gus is originally from the North Shore of Massachusetts where he grew up playing pond hockey, until moving to Charlotte NC where he began playing travel hockey. He is a Mechanical Engineering major with a concentration in Motorsports and is minoring in Mathematics.

James McCarthy

Vice President
James was raised in Fairfield County Connecticut where he played his travel and high school hockey. He is currently a rising senior majoring in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structures and is minoring in Mathematics. James has been a member of the team since 2018.
